Coming in Hot with Swedish Stew
Between Slash with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, Nashville Pussy, Monster Truck, and the Supersuckers there is just so much new music out there. And good shit at that.
Let me just say that the new Slash album is a home run. I believe him and Myles have hit a good groove in songwriting and the more these guys do together the better its going to get. I mentioned this on the 2 Unemployed Radio Guys podcast that the best album name for 2018, maybe even 2017, and 2019 goes to Nashville Pussy who nailed it with their latest called “Pleased to Eat You”. Seriously what a fantastic album title. It’s not all about known signed bands for me.
As I was working away last week I got an email from my friend Tom and he asked me to check out a band called Stew. Tom loves music, but most importantly Tom knows the kind of music I like and doesn’t send me music that he knows I will probably hate. I love him for that.
So I fired up the Stew “Hot” EP and it has this super cool 60’s / 70’s vibe. The guys are a 3 piece band out of Sweden. I don’t think I have heard a band from Sweden that I have liked since Drain STH who still happen to be a favorite of mine. Anyway, back to the band Stew, the four track EP is damn good. As I listened I heard some great musicians, and some catchy lyrics. Name your favorite artist from that Classic Rock era (Cream, Sabbath, Zep, Stones, Robin Trower, Deep Purple) and you can hear that influence. I can only assume that it’s a good thing that when I listened I felt like I should be throwing back some beers and firing up a joint (and I don’t even smoke). Looking at the photo below I think I could definitely throw back some beers with these dudes..

While I do like all 4 tracks on the EP, the tunes “Digging for Gold” and “Tongue Tied” keep getting repeat status at home and in the car. Hopefully the guys will continue to write and record and a new album is down the road in 2019. I am excited to follow these guys and see what happens. So for what my opinion is worth to you, fire one up and or grab a cold one and check these guys out you won’t be disappointed. One might even say they are groovy.
